Implement a Simple Search Box on SharePoint 2010 Sites
If you create your own masterpage in SharePoint 2010, it is very easy to implement a search box. No ASP.NET knowledge is required.
- Create a simple form with a text box and a submit button.
- Set “method” of the form to be ‘get’ and the “action” to be the search result page. Usually it is
http://yourURL/_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx - Set the name of the text box to be “k”. Feel free to put in a default value if you want.
- (Optional) Create a hidden field with the name “u” and the value as your site/subsite URL – the URL of the site that you would like to search within.
- (Optional) Create another hidden field with the name “cs” and the value “This Site”.
The code snippet will look like this:
